Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.
-Psalm 19:14
Words are powerful. The issue with words is that once they come out of your mouth you can’t take them back. James 3:5-10 is clear that the tongue in its natural state is full of poison, a little fire that destroys. He points out that the tongue is the one thing that humans have not been able to subdue. It is used to bless God and curse our brothers and this should not be among us.
The bible has much to say about our words. We are called to listen more than we speak (James 1:19). We are called to make sure that our words please God (Psalm 19:14). We are called to have conversations of grace (Colossians 4:6). The words of the believer are to reflect the grace, mercy, and love of our Savior.
Have your conversations and words reflected Christ lately? How would your conversations change if you were in the presence of God? Take time this week to ask the Lord to show you the impact of your words. Then ask him to give you the grace necessary to bless others as you speak that you may be acceptable in His sight.
In Christ,
Josue R Reyes
